I bought my U180 in January 2013 from Argos, where it shipped with Windows 7 Starter. It was a dog running Facebook on IE (Standard 1GB RAM), so after three days I gave up and attempted installing uBuntu 12.10. The installation didn't work - kept hanging during the Install (though funnily it would run the Live USB). I found documents waffling on about issues with the N2600 chip. I then opted for a lighter Linux, and got a USB boot disk with Fuduntu which installed but didn't give me an interface I wanted, but I then tried uBuntu 12.04LTS - works like a charm, with one exception. I cannot get the 0.3MP WEBCAM to fire up. uBuntu is oh-so-fast on the U180, and then I went and swapped the 1GB RAM for the 2GB RAM max, which is really wicked. I've managed to render a 10min video clip on Celestia, adding sound afterwards. I have about 40min more battery time than with original OS (using the leanest settings on both), which allows me to pack the U180 onto a flight anywhere in the EU (it only weighs 1kg) and watch a movie inflight. An annoying thing is that you have to apply a little more pressure on the SPACE bar than the other keys, otherwise it doesn't register. I do recommend the laptop for anyone interested in a sub £200 machine, even with the CAM failure (which I will keep working on).
