Discussion
As of kernel 3.2.0-36 for AMD64, there is a serious ACPI issue that causes excessively long boot times (on the order of 10-15 minutes). Booting with ACPI=Off fixes the issue but disables hyperthreading. In my experience, booting kernel 3.2.0-32 or previous works *fine*; it is definitely a problem with the current linux kernels.
I have found several discussions on various sites about this, but have not seen much concern in the community to fixing the issue, which is a great pity.
